Billboard, World of Women Collab on NFT Magazine

Written By Simon Mwebaze

Women have graced music stages and stores all over the world. They have topped the charts, sold-out shows and sold multiple successful albums to pave the way for more women to showcase their musical talent.

Since July 2021, World of Women (WOW) has been breaking boundaries in the world of NFTs. More recently, Guy Oseary, the manager of Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2 and the Bored Ape Yacht Club, has added WOW as a client.

With more than 55,000 ETH ($155 million) in sales volume, WOW has grabbed a slot as one of the top 15 most traded PFP NFT collections of all time on OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace.

As we approach the 2022 Women in Music event and Women’s History Month, Billboard has collaborated with Yam Karkai, the prolific digital artist and creator of the World of Women Project, to create the first three NFT magazine covers.

The NFT magazine covers will feature three iconic female artists; Christina Aguilera, Madonna and Mariah Carey. The NFT covers will be auctioned through the FTX US marketplace at the floor price of 1 ETH, beginning on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 9 p.m. PT.

The covers will be sold on the Ethereum blockchain with a significant portion of the proceeds going to not-for-profit organizations chosen by the artists. Christina Aguilera’s cover proceeds will benefit National Coalition Against Domestic Violence; Mariah Carey’s will benefit Fresh Air Fund and Madonna’s will benefit City of Joy.

Additionally, the winning bidders for the three NFT covers will walk away with an exclusive all-expenses-paid trip to attend next year’s Billboard Women in Music event in Los Angeles, walk the red carpet and meet Karkai in person.

Some of the honorees at the 2022 Billboard Women in Music Awards include Doja Cat, Bonnie Raitt, Gabby Barrett, Phoebe Bridgers, Summer Walker, Karol G and Saweetie.

By showcasing iconic and influential female music artists as NFT magazine covers and supporting not for profits, the collaboration between Billboard and WOW shows valuable intention and initiative toward empowering women and bridging the gender gap in crypto and NFTs.
