Lionsgate brings Hellboy into The Sandbox metaverse

Has watching your favorite movies on the big screen become boring? Same old stuff, just a different day? Do you want to engage more with your favorite movies? Maybe in the metaverse? Say no more!

Lionsgate recently bought real estate in the Sandbox metaverse. It is the first Hollywood studio to partner with The Sandbox – in a partnership that will create Action City.

“We can’t wait to open our Lionsgate land in the Sandbox metaverse so fans around the globe can create, play, and explore our film IP in ways that go beyond what’s possible in the physical world,” said Lionsgate’s Jenefer Brown. “We’re excited by the new possibilities our strategic relationship with the Sandbox will offer our community.”

What is Action City? It is an area in The Sandbox that will host 2019’s “Hellboy” and other Lionsgate and Millennium Media action films. The Millenium Media action films include Sylvester Stallone vehicles “Rambo,” “Rambo: Last Blood” and the three movies in the “The Expendables” franchise.

With all these movies, what is the utility? As a player, you can create your own experiences using both original and established characters and worlds. You can also equip your 3D avatars with items based on the Lionsgate properties or deploy them in original user-created experiences.

But this is not the end of the tunnel. Soon, Lionsgate and The Sandbox plan to launch a virtual land studded with the studio’s catalog of horror titles.

“Adding to this mix a partner with the unparalleled global entertainment impact of Lionsgate – a company with 129 Academy Award nominations and a rich catalog of popular action and horror films – significantly enriches our open metaverse,” said COO and Co-founder of The Sandbox Sebastien Borget.

This is not The Sandbox’s first partnership. It has partnered with other big brands before – including Warner Music Group, Ubisoft, the Rabbids, Shibuya 109, Gucci Vault, the Walking Dead, Snoop Dogg, Adidas, Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Richie Hawtin, The Smurfs, and Care Bears.
