Decentraland Hosts World’s First Metaverse Fashion Week

Written By Simon Mwebaze

Web 3.0 has had many firsts recently – in sports, games, and most recently, fashion when Decentaland hosted the first fashion week (ever!) in the Metaverse.

Metaverse Fashion Week, or as the Twitterverse called it, #MVFW, was graced by many luxury and emerging brands. The brands that struck a pose at this monumental event included Forever 21, DKNY, Estee Lauder, Jonathan Simkhai, Mowalola and Collina Strada.

The fashion week stood out because it combined both the physical and virtual fashion worlds. Users had access to both virtual items, such as NFTs, and physical items that could be delivered in real-life.

Some featured NFTs we love:

  • Selfridges, a British department store, showcased NFTs of artistic works and digital renditions of ‘young Rabanne’s first 12 ‘Unwearable’ dresses from 1966
  • A limited quantity of 10,000 Advanced Night Repair NFT wearables that you can access if you have a MetaMask crypto wallet or other Ethereum-supporting crypto wallet
  • A limited edition of 1,000 NFTs of the ‘Cobra’ series of sneakers by Giuseppe Zanotti, an Italian fashion designer
  • NFTs of Dolce and Gabbana’s summer collection
  • Other NFTs by Coach, Ester Manas, Wandler and Braw Haus
  • To crown the fashion week, Hogan, an Italian fashion designer, hosted an after-party called “Hogan X”
  • Other outstanding features included French Fashion Houses – Lanvin and Chanel – showcasing digital movies and music collaboration between Canadian music star Grimes and Auroboros.

CJ TRAX, Meta Art’s house DJ for Twitter Spaces with Meta Art Co-founder Kelly Ann Collins, who DJ’d the event with MetaPartyDCL, commented on the success of the virtual fashion week, ”Digital fashion, NFTs, and crypto are going to change the world!”

Parcel, a Web3 company we know and love, also made a big splash at the event. Check out their wrap-up thread on Twitter.

The Metaverse is turning out to be a great platform for fashion brands large and small. With the success of the first-ever Metaverse Fashion Week, we are looking forward to more amazing showcases ahead.
